Genealogy of Jesus Christ, Son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham begat Isaac and Isaac begat Jacob and Jacob begat Judah and his brothers, Judah begat Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begat Esrom, Esrom begat Aram, Aram begat Amminadab, Amminadab begat Nahshon, Nahshon begat Salmon, Salmon fathered Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begat David the king.
David begat Solomon from what had been the wife of Uriah, Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot Abijah, Abijah became the father of Asaph, Asaph became the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat begot Joram, Joram begat Uzziah, Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham fathered Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, Ezechias begat Manasseh, Manasseh fathered Amos, Amos became the father of Josiah, Josiah became the father of Jehoiachin and his brothers, at the time of the exile in Babylon.
After the deportation to Babylon, Jehoiachin begat Salathiel, Salathiel fathered Zerubbabel, Zerubbabel begat Abiud, Abiud fathered Eliakim, Eliakim begat Azor, Azor begot Zadok, Zadok fathered Achim, Achim begat Eliud, Eliud begat Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, Matthan begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.
In this way, all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen from the deportation to Babylon to Christ fourteen.
